JBS Five Rivers Cattle Feeding Internship

Introduction

JBS Five Rivers Cattle Feeding logoAs the world’s largest cattle feeding company, JBS Five Rivers Cattle Feeding LLC (Five Rivers) is well positioned to lead the cattle feeding industry into the future. The company operates thirteen feedyards in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, Wisconsin and Ohio and markets more than 1.5 million head of cattle a year. As an integrated part of the largest beef processing business in the world, we work to achieve just-in-time delivery of cattle and continuous improvement of our cattle and our operations. Through our research programs, we are actively improving our cattle feeding nutrition programs, production practices and operations to develop cattle that meet the needs for a range of specialty markets. Application

The JBS Five Rivers Cattle Feeding Internship Scholarship is awarded to selected undergraduate and graduate students who have interest in beef cattle production. Students will receive $1,000 to spend up to 3 mo as an intern at a JBS Five Rivers feedyard in TX, OK, KS, or CO locations. Students will not receive a salary while at the JBS Five Rivers feedyard and a minimum of 2 mo of internship is required.
The scholarship will be awarded to students that meet the following selection criteria:

  1. Student is participating or has participated in the FIPSE/CAPES exchange program,
  2. Student has a GPA greater or equal to 2.5,
  3. Student has successfully completed at least two courses in general or basic Animal Science
  4. Student has to be currently enrolled as undergrad or graduate when applying for the internship, and
  5. Student should have active health insurance.

Interested students should send the following documents for application:

  1. Short curriculum vitae,
  2. Current transcripts,
  3. Statement of purpose (up to 1 page),
  4. Names and contact information including emails of three references, and
  5. Indicate the first three JBS Five Rivers feedyards of your preference.

Applications will be evaluated by a panel of faculty and staff of Texas A&M University and awarded students will be notified. The final approval for an international student will be dependent on his/her ability to obtain an appropriate VISA.

Students should submit their applications to Dr. Luis Tedeschi or Cathryn Clement. The application deadline is November 30 for Fall and April 1 for Spring.
